PAPA’S BAG - PROJECT GREENLIGHT SEASON 3

As one of the “top ten directors” for the horror season of Project Greenlight, we were given three pages of ambiguous dialogue and told to use two, in any order, and make a five-minute short without any additional dialogue or music. PAPA’S BAG, about a girl visiting her dying papa, is my submission.  It had a short turnaround and could never have made it in time without everyone involved.  5min - 35mm.

NIGHTFALL

After a midnight ambush, three World War II soldiers hole up in an abandoned barn behind enemy lines.  But when one wounded soldier begins to suspect the others of having ulterior motives, he must confront his true enemy.  Premiered at the Dances With Films Festival in Santa Monica, CA.  Film Threat calls it “gripping beauty”. Recently featured on the Dark Matter Anthology hosted by George Noory.  We shot this in an old potato barn in Walpole, NH with a full camera package graciously donated through the Panavision New Filmmaker Program and a film award from Kodak.  25m - 16mm.

BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG

Every year thousands of people gather in Pennsylvania around the fourth of July to witness a reenactment of one of the most famous battles of the civil war.  Shot on a trusty CP-16mm camera, Gettysurg is a small tribute to all involved.

SILENT BUT DEADLY

Revenge is mime.  A young couple discovers that it’s not nice to interrupt a street mime’s performance.  Shot years ago on an old bolex we speculated was from World War II, I’m fond of this short mostly for the PVC pipe crane the crew built.  Shot in Manchester, NH, we ate well courtesy of Foodee’s Pizza.

GRIFFIN

When I was asked by Moviola Hollywood to direct a test shoot with their Sony F3, I decided to put it through a variety of situations - from bright sunlight to dark streets.  We had very little time to prepare, and less time to shoot in uncontrollable situations.
